The Actor's Stage

To feel the lights in the dressing room.
Feel the light for you.
Never gave a wrong word to mistranslate…
Never gave at all to you.
Ah, the covered light.
Feel the woes that come down; beside, for the summer’s last night.
For the pleasure of all.
For all.
Saw the actor give and let them take.
He would not plagiarize the scene.
And when the curtains fell and the 4th wall breaks,
And the actors, all running lines in the wings.
Feel the light burn age in your eyes.
For the woes that frame my face in a million mile gaze,
Too much to conceal and blend away.
And when I gather with my friends, and they ask,
How’s the stage been?
I can say I’ve been mixing it
With the best of them.

Oh, I love to cook
But I don’t do the dishes.
And I’m pleased that you would break my bread,
But I don’t understand money.
Well, I’m glad you’re here,
For the meal needs the sharing.
And as long as you eat what all that you take,
Then I don’t got no problem.
Come in and fill my second seat,
For I can all but guarantee,
That you will eat your fill then offer me
The charity of your company.
Then, I will take my rest
As you take your leave
From the hand from which you feed.

Dreaming of a Fire
02:26
|
|||
It always happens like this.
I’m asleep, a deep and wondrous sleep with no dreams, concerns, or interruptions.
I first notice I’m dreaming when I recognize sounds in the darkness,
And then I am suddenly aware of lying in a field.
I sit up to look, there is nothing but distance and space around me.
I stand up knowing I am no longer alone,
And I notice another fellow who happens to be there.
Neither of us knows the other.
I stop moving here, and only observe the rest:
I know he’s about to do it, I have seen it over and over again
In this same place.
The flames just seem to emerge from him,
From the backside up and over his head like a great borealis.
He reaches one hand out to me
As if to warn me of something he can see
Only right then and there.
But I never hear his words, as a large rush of wind comes out of the fire
And takes him over completely, and it’s done in a few minutes more.
I wake up here, every time, and the space next to me in the bed is always warm.
